On the morning of December 12, 2018, the naming ceremony for Mt. Pan Africa was held in Changxing Island of Hudong Shipyard. Mt. Pan Africa is the last vessel of the Queensland Curtis Project (QCLNG) co-operated by China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited (CLNG), of which COSCO SHIPPING Energy controls 50% shares, CNOOC Energy Development Co., Ltd., Teekay and BW.

Vikash Panjiar, Representative of Shell International Trade and Maritime Company, Xiang Yongmin, Chief Accountant of COSCO SHIPPING Energy, Yu Hua, Assistant Manager of CNOOC Energy Development Co., Ltd., Tony Armstrong, Vice President of Teekay New Shipbuilding Project, Huang Yuanyuan, Chief Representative of BW Beijing Office, Chen Ping, General Manager of CLNG, as well as guests from Hudong Shipyard, China Export-Import Bank, and Classification Society, altogether over 100 people attended the naming ceremony. Ms. Ginger McKechnie christened the ship and cut the hawser.

Mt. Pan African stands for the last one out of the four LNG carriers ordered by the QCLNG Project. With a total length of 290 meters, a width of 46.95 meters and a depth of 26.25 meters, the designed deadweight for the vessel is 82,500 tons and the total capacity is 174,0003 ,which means it can be loaded with 107 million cubic meters vaporized LNG. It is currently one of the few large-scale LNG carriers that use advanced electric propulsion reliquefaction equipment. It will be delivered to Shell in early January 2019.

QCLNG Project, located in Queensland, Australia, is the world's first world-class LNG project with coalbed methane as the source of gas. It is also the first full-industry-chain investment project concerning overseas LNG in China. After the project being put into production, there will be over 8.6 million tons of LNG annually being shipped to China.

As the leader of China's LNG transportation, COSCO SHIPPING Energy owns Shanghai LNG and CLNG (50% stake), the only two LNG Shipping companies in China. And CLNG holds altogether 15 LNG carriers, including 4 QCLNG project vessels and 11 YAMAL project ones (Arc-7 class). Apart from the 5 vessels that have already been delivered, the remaining 10 LNG carriers will be delivered and put into operation before the end of 2019. At that time, the shipping capacity of CLNG will be increased to 21vessels with 1.897 million DWT.
